Spelling Variations

Millan, Mullen, Mullin, Millin, and numerous other variations, with or without Mc, Mac, M' are all recognised variations of MacMillan. As a matter of fact, the Clan MacMillan Society officially recognises over 200 spelling variations. Much of this is due to MacMillans being prone to wonder, sometimes by choice, and often by chance. Before literacy became wide spread, you ended up with a name spelled the way it sounded to whatever individual happend to write it down. There were also local dialects to be dealt with, making even the spoken name sound differant.
